Shopify WebMCP Checkout Steps for UAE Stores

Shopify now lets browser agents work through checkout and makes more app actions visible to Sidekick. Here is what UAE merchants should check, and what they can leave alone.

Shopify WebMCP Checkout Steps for UAE Stores

Shopify WebMCP checkout: what UAE merchants need to do

Most UAE Shopify merchants do not need to install anything or change checkout code. Shopify has added WebMCP tools that let browser agents read and update an active checkout, then submit it after buyer confirmation. The sensible response is to make the store’s product data, policies and checkout journey clear and testable, rather than launch an expensive AI project before there is a customer use case. Shopify WebMCP checkout tools and storefront features

On September 28, 2026, Shopify added WebMCP support for checkout. WebMCP is a way for a web page to register tools that an AI agent can use through the browser. Shopify says browser agents can now navigate to the storefront, read checkout state, update supported checkout fields and complete checkout after the buyer confirms. If the buyer must take over, such as for 3D Secure authentication or a blocking checkout extension, control returns to the buyer. (shopify.dev)

This follows Shopify’s August 5, 2026 release of WebMCP tools for Liquid and Hydrogen storefronts. Those tools cover product search, product details, variants, cart changes, shop policies and FAQs, and moving to checkout. Shopify says the tools work in the shopper’s live browser session and require nothing to install or configure on a Liquid storefront. (shopify.dev)

The change is less about adding an AI button and more about making the existing buying journey legible to browser agents.

What Shopify WebMCP changes for UAE merchants

A customer using a supported browser agent may be able to ask for a product, compare available variants, add one to the cart and continue through checkout without manually clicking every step. That does not mean an agent can silently place orders. Shopify’s checkout tools require buyer confirmation before completion, and some payment or checkout steps still require the buyer. (shopify.dev)

For a UAE store, the immediate business question is therefore not whether to build a chatbot. It is whether the store gives an agent reliable information to work with. Product titles should identify the item clearly. Variant names should not be vague. Availability, delivery information, returns, FAQs and payment instructions should be easy to find. Shopify’s storefront tools specifically include catalog, cart and shop-policy functions, so weak information architecture can become a practical barrier to assisted shopping. (shopify.dev)

This matters most for merchants with a broad catalogue, repeat purchase journeys or customers who already ask for help choosing between products. A small catalogue with straightforward products may see little immediate benefit. In that case, improving descriptions and checking checkout behaviour is enough.

Shopify Sidekick app intents: what developers need to check

On September 28, 2026, Shopify also changed how Sidekick discovers app actions. An app extension can now be eligible when it declares intents without a tools file. Shopify says this applies to all apps and stores, with no API version to target and no opt-in. If an app has an intent-only extension but no `extensions_summary` in `shopify.app.toml`, the next `shopify app deploy` fails validation until that summary is added. (shopify.dev)

That mainly affects UAE developers building Shopify apps, not ordinary merchants. A merchant using an app should ask the developer whether its Sidekick actions are exposed and tested. A developer should review each extension, add a clear summary where required, deploy to a development store and test a Sidekick request that matches the registered intent. Shopify’s own steps are to check the intent declaration, confirm the summary, deploy and ask Sidekick to suggest the app. (shopify.dev)

UAE Shopify WebMCP and Sidekick checklist

For a merchant launching or rebuilding a store, this is a useful reason to include structured product content and a clean checkout brief. It is not a reason to replace a working Shopify theme. If the store is already converting, the first step is quality control: use a development or test environment, inspect the journey, and record where a human buyer still needs to intervene.

  • —Review product titles, variants and availability
  • —Make delivery, returns and FAQs easy to find
  • —Test cart and checkout on a real browser session
  • —Check whether payment authentication needs buyer input
  • —Ask app developers about Sidekick intent support
  • —Avoid custom agent work until a real use case exists

Paknology Shopify services for UAE store improvements

Paknology has a commercial interest where this leads to a new ecommerce launch, store website or technical improvement. Its ecommerce launch service and website and mobile app service may be relevant when a UAE business is setting up or rebuilding its online shop. The Shopify changes themselves do not require a paid service or merchant configuration, so a capable owner with a stable store may be better served by doing the checklist internally.

If your Shopify store is new, prepare the catalogue, policies and checkout before asking for agent-specific work. If it is already stable, test it and leave the rest alone unless customers or staff have a clear use case for browser agents or Sidekick actions.
