What should a restaurant POS in Dubai be able to do?
Beyond taking orders, a Dubai restaurant POS needs to handle 5% VAT correctly on every line, keep working when the internet drops, tell you the true cost of each dish, and be built so e-invoicing can be added when the mandate reaches your business. Most POS systems sold here do the first and last of those badly.
The five things worth insisting on
- VAT handled per line at 5%, with compliant tax invoices — not VAT bolted on at the total
- Offline mode that keeps taking orders and syncs afterwards, because a POS that stops when the connection does will cost you a service
- Recipe and ingredient costing, so the system can tell you what a dish costs today rather than what you assumed last year
- Delivery aggregator orders landing in the same queue as walk-in orders, instead of a separate tablet per platform
- An architecture that can emit structured invoices when e-invoicing reaches you, rather than one that will need replacing
Why costing is the feature that pays for the system
Most restaurant owners know their revenue and guess their food cost. A POS that ties recipes to purchase prices turns that guess into a number per dish, updated as supplier prices move.
That single number is usually where the money is. A dish selling well at a margin that quietly went negative when cheese prices rose is invisible on a sales report and obvious on a costed one.
About e-invoicing
The UAE is moving to a decentralised e-invoicing model in which accredited service providers exchange structured invoices between businesses and report to the tax authority. It is phased, and which phase applies to you depends on your size and the current Ministry of Finance timetable — check the MoF for your bracket rather than trusting a vendor's marketing.
What matters when buying today is not whether a POS claims to be compliant already, but whether its data is structured enough to produce a compliant invoice when required. Ask to see how an invoice is stored, not a compliance badge.
Where we sit
We build restaurant POS and back-office systems rather than reselling one, which means the costing and reporting are shaped around how a specific kitchen actually works. If your operation is standard, an off-the-shelf product may serve you better and cost less — we will say so on the call.
